A Toast to Our Hosts

Much appreciation to our hosts and partners at the Ephraim Historical Foundation.

The Ephraim Historical Foundation partnered with the Wisconsin Historical Society in bringing the Wisconsin History Tour exhibit and events to the charming Anderson Barn and Ephraim Village Hall for the month of July 2014.

We met many fine people and hope to stay in touch. Thank you, Ephraim and the Ephraim Historical Foundation! We enjoyed our month in Door County!

Directors of the Wisconsin Historical Society and Marathon County Historical Society.

Ellsworth Brown of the Wisconsin Historical Society presents a certificate of appreciation to members of the Ephraim Historical Foundation.

Ephraim Historical Foundation

ephraim.org

Founded in 1949 through the efforts of a former teacher to save the historic one-room schoolhouse where she taught classes, the Ephraim Historical Foundation celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2014.

When Helen Sohns learned that the village of Ephraim planned to either tear down or radically modify the school, she solicited the aid of friend Warren Davis, who spearheaded a successful campaign to buy the schoolhouse.

The 1880 Pioneer Schoolhouse was the first of five historic properties stewarded by the Ephraim Historical Foundation, including the 1854 Iverson House, the 1855 Goodleston Cabin, the 1858 Anderson Store, and the 1880 Anderson Barn. The Anderson Barn houses the Foundation's offices, a museum and an archival resource center. These museums stand testament to the courage, dedication, and fortitude of generations past. The Foundation and its members are dedicated to preserving this history and heritage for future generations. In addition, the Foundation also preserves the 1890 Svalhus.

The purpose of the Ephraim Historical Foundation is to sustain the beauty of Ephraim for the enjoyment of residents, guests, and visitors; to preserve and foster the preservation of historical monuments, buildings, structures, sites, documents, and relics; and to foster the development of cultural services including libraries, art, historical museums, adult education, and other civic services especially within the village of Ephraim, but also including the state of Wisconsin.
