A Toast to Our Hosts

It's confirmed. La Crosse loves history!

We were incredibly fortunate to have the exceptional Weber Center for the Performing Arts host the Tour, during the month of November with a view of the Mississippi River. We also were very fortunate to work with the La Crosse County Historical Society on the Tour exhibit.

The La Crosse community came out for programs of all varieties - from Veterans Day events to History Happy Hour at the Casino Bar to the huge crowds for George Johnson's presentation on the Mississippi pearl industry and Tami Thomsen's talk on shipwrecks, including La Crosse's very own War Eagle. We were thrilled to see the enthusiasm La Crosse has for history!

The week of programming opened on Veterans Days, in partnership with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and Wisconsin Public Television, with an all-day commemoration of those who fought for our country. The day featured screenings of Wisconsin War Stories, documentaries created in collaboration with the Society and Wisconsin Public Television, a book talk by former Wisconsin Army National Guard Sargent, Joseph Streeter, and a concert in the evening by the 1st Brigade Band of Civil War Music. Perhaps most moving though, were the personal stories shared on stage and off from veterans who came out for the day.

Thank you La Crosse! You are a community full of exceptional warmth and hospitality, energy, history and fun!
