A Toast to Our Hosts

Milwaukee, you should get a 'blue ribbon' for your gemutlichkeit and rich history!

We had a wonderful time in downtown Milwaukee at Central Library during the month of January. The Tour would not have been nearly as successful without the wonderful staff and gemutlichkeit at the library. The exhibit would not have had that Milwaukee charm without the account of beer history from the Milwaukee County Historical Society.

During the week of programming we started a new event called 'Show Us Your Stuff.' Anyone could come and show an object and tell their story that connected them to their past. The program was a huge success and everyone learned something new about Wisconsin history, including more beer history! Thanks to all who participated!

The Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery hosted History Happy Hour, during which we received even more beer history from owner Jim Haertel and a preview of their new speakeasy bar! Thanks to all who made that event possible and those who came out and got dolled up!

Of course, beer history is not the only history in Milwaukee. We also learned about Wisconsin lighthouses from Commander Moser from the United States Coastguard, folks from the North Point Lighthouse, and Press authors, Ken and Barb Wardius. We learned about German immigrant gardens and shipwrecks off Milwaukee's shoreline. The first ever Alice and Dairyland made a surprise appearance at the talk on the murals from the 1948 State Fair!

Cheers Milwaukee!
