A Toast to Our Hosts

Much appreciation to our hosts and partners at the Verona Public Library and the Dane County Historical Society.

The Dane County Historical Society and Verona Public Library partnered with the Wisconsin Historical Society in bringing the Wisconsin History Tour exhibit and events to Verona for the month of August 2014.

We met many fine people and hope to stay in touch. Thank you, Verona Public Library and Dane County Historical Society! We enjoyed our month in Verona!

Under the leadership of Mrs. Alice Kunstam, the first library in Verona was started in 1947 in one room located in the old bank building on Main St. In 1959, the Village of Verona assumed full control of the library and it joined the Dane County Library system. The current library building, located at 500 Silent Street, opened to the public in May, 2006. The mission of the Verona Public Library is to build community by bringing a world of knowledge together through continuous improvement, enthusiasm, outstanding reputation and literacy.

Incorporated as an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society in 1961, the Dane County Historical Society preserves, advances and disseminates knowledge of the history of Dane County, Wisconsin. Its primary mission is to promote an awareness of Dane County's rich heritage, thus aiding in its preservation. It houses archival collections in the Otto Schroeder Records Center, located within the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison. The Dane County Historical Society has erected over 40 historical markers throughout the county and continues to publish educational materials relating to the history of the county. In addition, it hosts historical public programs and coordinates collaboration and communication among historical societies in Dane County.
